Abstract text:
Façade systems, and particularly glazing, most an intractable problem for designers. The façade is always bi-directional in that energy transfers in both directions simultaneously. Heat may be conducting to the outside while radiating to the interior, and light entering the building must be balanced with the view to the exterior. Intelligent application of advanced ‘smart’ façade technology in conjunction with innovative environmental systems can result in significant energy savings and, at the same time, improvement of indoor comfort.
